Exchange 2007 Offline Database Maintenance

  1. Before even thinking about beginning this process MAKE sure to have a backup of your database that you are going to defragment!
  2. Login as Exchange Administrator.
  3. Open Exchange management console.
  4. go to Server Configuration>Mailbox
  5. Select the server you want to view>expand the storage group that contains your database you want to run maintenance on.
  6. Highlight the database path and hit cntrl+c this will copy the path for later use
  7. In the action pane dismount the database
  8. open command prompt.
  9. switch to the directory where your database is located C:program filesmicrosoftexchange serverbin
  10. type isinteg.exe -s <servername> -test allfoldertests – this will display all of the database files
  11. type the corresponding number to run offline maintenance followed by Y for yes to confirm
  12. Keep running this utility until all of the errors are cleaned up
  13. At the command prompt to perform a database level integrity check run the following command – Eseutil /g “database file path”
  14. Once this is done free of errors defrag the database by running – Eseutil.exe /d “database file path”
  15. Once step 14 is complete go back into the Exchange Management console to mount the database

View the whitespace in an Exchange 2007 database

Unless you run offline defragmentation by using eseutil /d command the Exchange database file will never shrink.  It will free up space within its own database so that the space can be over written.  However, it will always use the space on the disk until you run offline defragmentation.  If you want to view the whitespace in an Exchange database file you can by looking in the application log for Event ID 1221.
*Before ever running an offline defrag you should always make a copy of the database first and run the defrag on that copy.  That way if anything goes wrong you still have the original database file.  Exchange databases are very vulnerable and doing this extra step can save you tons of headaches.

SMTP protocol logging via Exchange Shell

On receive connector:
Turn it on – Set -ReceiveConnector <ConnectorName> -ProtocolLoggingLevel Basic
Turn it off – Set -ReceiveConnector <ConnectorName> -ProtocolLoggingLevel None
To change the send connector use the syntax above replace “ReceiveConnector” with “SendConnector”

Defragment – ESEUTIL /d <database name>
Recovery – ESEUTIL /r <logfile base name>
Integrity – ESEUTIL /g <database name>
Checksum – ESEUTIL /k <filename>
Repair – ESEUTIL /p <database name>
File dump – ESEUTIL /m [mode-modifier] <filename>
Copy file – ESEUTIL /y <source file>
Restore – ESEUTIL /c [mode-modifier] <pathname>

Disabling IPv6 on Windows 2008

1. In the register Editor, locate and the following key:
a. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesTcpip6 Parameters
2. If the DisabledComponents key doesnt exist, please create it.
a. In the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value. 
b. Type DisabledComponents, and then press ENTER. 
c. Double-click DisabledComponents.
3. Type 0xffffffff to disable all IPv6 components, except IPv6 loopback interface. 
This value also configures Windows to use IPv4 instead of IPv6 in prefix 
policies.

Installing wordpress

1. First things first download the software http://wordpress.org/download/
2. Extract the files to your root folder for your blog.
3. Rename the wp-config-sample.php file to wp-config.php.
4. Edit the wp-config.php file

  • GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON .* TO @
  • IDENTIFIED BY ““;
  • FLUSH PRIVILEGES
  • EXIT
  • 10. Open a web browser to http://yourBlog.com/blog/wp-admin/install.php
    11. That’s it you’re finished installing.
